Let's talk Alternative Wedding Music
As you’ve most likely already read on my website, I absolutely love learning new music for my wedding couples and so I’m taking just a few minutes to share with you the wedding songs and hymns I’ve been working on recently.
Some of the music listed below has already been performed at weddings in the last few weeks and months, while others are still being prepared for upcoming wedding ceremonies.
Keeping things fresh
I love every single part of my job. Every wedding is different. Each couple, every venue, the vibe, the guests….the list is endless. It’s an exciting job, and the music is ultimately what keeps things fresh and new with each wedding I perform at.
Peoples choice of wedding songs is becoming more and more alternative, especially with the increase of non-religious wedding ceremonies. I think this short list will show the variation of what’s being requested these days.
I always adopt the attitude, and you hear it more and more these days:
Your Wedding, Your Way!
So what's new?
-
You To Me Are Everything
I performed a stripped back rendition of the 70's classic on piano (with vocals) for a Bridal Entrance recently taking inspiration from the Mark O'Donnell version.
-
Still Into You
One of my couples added this to their wedding ceremony music list asking me to use the Isabella Kensington recording as a reference (originally by Paramore). Performed on guitar and vocals while the Bride & Groom signed the state register.
-
Biblical - Calum Scott
I sang two excerpts of this one for both parts of a candle lighting ceremony in Clonabreany House recently. It worked perfectly and the tempo of the song is just ideal for the sentiment and mood of that particular part of a wedding ceremony.
-
Oceans - Hillsong UNITED
You might not recognise the name but I'm confident you'll know it when you hear it. "Spirit Lead Me Where My Trust Is Without Borders..." This is a truly stunning song / modern christian hymn by Hillsong UNITED. Very appropriate as a Communion Hymn and some couples are including it during The Signing of The Register. I've included my own video further down.
-
Love Like This - Ben Rector
I say this a lot, BUT, this is my newest favourite wedding song 🙂 Ben Rector's song is a perfect Wedding Entrance Song.
-
When I Look At You - Miley Cyrus
I've been listening to this one by Miley Cyrus a lot lately, letting it soak in. Can't wait to start working on it for an upcoming wedding ceremony.
-
Fly On The Wings of Love - Olsen Brothers
I knew nothing about this song until Shauna & Noel requested it for their Humanist wedding in Clonabreany House on Valentine's Day. I performed it after their Recessional song and just as guests were leaving the ceremony space. It would also make a great Recessional song itself.
-
Nice To Meet You - Myles Smith
Recessional song pending....
-
I Don't Want To Miss A Thing - Aerosmith
NO ONE HAS REQUESTED THIS! I'm just adding it into my repertoire about 10 years too late. But as wedding songs go - is there any better power ballad than this?
-
I Light a candle for you - Hymn
Since posting my own recording of this at the start of the year, it has been added to 4 lists for church weddings later this year. It's worth a listen if you'd like to include a hymn that perhaps your wedding guests haven't heard over and over again.
-
Talk Tonight - Oasis
He asked her to put it on the list. Either way, I love it. It's on my playlist and To-do-list for a summer 2025 Civil Wedding Ceremony.
-
Lay All Your Love On Me
It's ABBA - no explanation necessary surely!?
